IFCM- The International Foundation For Carnatic Music
 



IFCM was initiated in the USA in 1997 and has formally been incorporated since 2007 and is today a not-for-profit foundation which has been granted the 501(C) by the IRS in USA. The IFCM has made a sincere effort to promote, project and preserve the great system of Carnatic music in North America, thereby contributing to the multi-cultural diversity of USA.

Besides, the IFCM-USA has endeavoured to enhance quality knowledge of musical aspirants for over a decade through workshops and courses by eminent artistes such as Sangeeta Kalanidhi T K Govinda Rao, founder Chitravina Ravikiran, popular violinist Akkarai Shubhalakshmi and vocal and instrumental guru Bhargavi Balasubramanian. Such courses have benefitted numerous students across the country in cities such as Philadelphia, San Jose, Washington DC, Houston, San Diego, Peoria, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Sacramento. The themes of such workshops include:

· Saptaratnas of Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi (Houston, Dallas, Pittsuburgh, Austin, Sacramento)

· Navagraha and Panchalinga krtis of Muttuswami Dikshitar, Ratna trayas of Shyama Shastri, Masterpieces of Swati Tirunal and Purandara Dasa (San Jose)

· Kamakshi Navavarana krtis of Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi (Austin & San Diego)

· Pancharatnas of Tyagaraja (Philadelphia)

Centres for Musical Excellence have been set up in Austin, Houston, Dallas and Minneapolis where Vishaal Sapuram, Kala Ganapathy, Seetha Chandrashekhar and Ganesh Raman have been appointed as trained members of faculty of the foundation conduct classes for students using highly-evolved methods of teaching that combines tradition and technology.

Concert and lectures are also occasionally organised featuring eminent artistes on themes like ragam tanam pallavi.

Taking it further, IFCM-USA has introduced Carnatic music to hitherto unexplored areas by collaborating with corporate entities such as Lucent Technologies in USA.

The IFCM-USA intends to initiate steps to create Departments of Carnatic music in major Universities. It will also focus on opening more Centres for Musical Excellence in other cities with competent teachers apart from conducting more camps & workshops.
